PAPRÉT

We were able to go to the nature long ago because the weather was bad. On
last Saturday - although  the forecast  promised better weather  -  promised
+6-8 degrees -  it seemed tempting.  So we left in the nice weather for Paprét
in  the morning . This small section of the Blue Trail was missing, so we chose
this small hike. We went from Szentendre to the bus stop Pilisszentlászló-Hegytető.
On the top of the hill  it was  foggy, rainy and there was a lot of snow,  that
disappeared already  in  the city.

We went on the red path about  3 kms to the forester's house in Paprét.
All the time  it was raining  hopelessly.

At the forester's house  we looked for  a stamp, and then we turned back on
the blue trail to the village  Pilisszentlászló.

As we descended the snow melted, and  became many small streams.
And of course all the water flowed down on the hiking path.

When we arrived at the village  our shoes, coats, backpacks, gloves, and all
stuff were completely wet. We waited for our bus in  Gesztenyés Pub. There
wasn’t   anything to eat or hot drinks. We were lucky that we took with us
hot tea and sandwiches.

Of course, the homeward journey  wasn't pleasant, our wet clothes kept us
cool. I desired  a hot shower at home only.

Winter 2010

The official First Day of Summer in Iceland isn’t until after two weeks but at the Icelandic Meteorological Office the winter ended on March 31. The 2009-2010 winter season was unusually warm—the temperature was 1.6°C above average in Reykjavík. In Stykkishólmur, west Iceland, the temperature this winter was 1.4°C warmer than average, in Akureyri in the north and Berufjördur in the east it was 0.9°C above the average winter temperature and in the Westman Islands in the south 1.1°C above average. The air pressure was unusually high—8.4 hPa above average in Reykjavík. The air pressure has only been higher on three occasions, in 1823, 1968 and 1969. In south Iceland the winter was rather dry—precipitation measured 215 millimeters in Reykjavík. The winter hasn’t been drier since 1977 when the precipitation measured 111 millimeters. In north Iceland the precipitation was different each month. The overall precipitation measured 234 millimeters in Akureyri this winter, which is 20 percent above average. Akureyri saw record snow layer depth in December. The snow melted in January and then it snowed again in February, while most of March was snow free. Akureyri had 57 days of complete snow cover, 16 fewer than during the average winter. There was very little snow in Reykjavík. The capital only had 13 days of complete snow cover, 31 fewer days than during an average winter.

Promenade d'hiver / Winter walk / Winterspaziergang

We have seen a few weeks only gray skies. For today we have one prophesied sunshine. Before lunch, I gave my granddaughter for parents and I started out walking in the neighborhood. The sun really shone, in the forest was soft snow on the branches of magnificent snow.

So the thought of half the town just go out in the woods:) Many people walking with children on foot and tobogganing or skiing. My friends have gone off in the morning, I met with them half way. From here we went through together Hárshegy (Lindenhill) to Hüvösvölgy (Cool-valley). Here is the terminus of the Children's Railway. In the pub we drank mulled wine and we talked about this and that. Then everyone went home in high spirits. That was a nice half day.
