We're going to Western Hungary. The start point at city Sopron. Here's a little info about the city.

Wir werden nach West-Ungarn fahren. Der Startpunkt ist im Stadt Sopron. Hier gibt's eine kleine Info über die Stadt.

Nous voyagerons à l'Ouest-Hongrie. Le point de départ dans la ville de Sopron. Voici un petit d'info sur la ville.


Sopron is situated near the western borders of Hungary, at the foot of the Alps, 60 km from Vienna and 220 km from Budapest. It is one of the oldest jewelboxes of the country. Sopron merges past and present in itself. It creates a bridge between Hungary and its western neighbours, opening a gate for foreign guests visiting Hungary, as it is symbolized by the coat of arms of the city. The inhabitants of the city are famed for their hospitality and loyalty to their hometown. This is also symbolized by the 'Gate of Faith', which can be found on the southern side of the Firewatch Tower, the symbol of the city, and which was made in memory of the referendum of 1921.

Sopron liegt an der westlichen Grenze von Ungarn am Fuße der Alpen, 60 km von Wien und 220 km von Budapest entfernt. Die Stadt ist eines der ältesten Schmuckkästchen des Landes, in ihr verschmelzen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart. Sopron bildet eine Brücke zwischen Ungarn und seinen westlichen Nachbarn, denn in der Stadt sind Gäste aus dem Ausland herzlichst willkommen, die Stadt erwartet sie sozusagen mit offenen Türen, wie es auch das Wappen der Stadt symbolisiert. Die Einwohner der Stadt sind bekannt für ihre Gastfreundschaft und auch für die Treue zu ihrer Heimat. Dies symbolisiert auch das "Tor der Treue", das an der südlichen Seite des Feuerturms, des Wahrzeichens der Stadt, zu finden ist, und das zum Gedenken an die Volksabstimmung von 1921 errichtet wurde.



The City Hall was built in 1896, in the year of the Hungarian Millennium. Opposite it, the Storno House is one of the most well-known buildings of the city, thanks to its highly interesting collection. Even King Matthias stayed overnight between these walls. The Goat Church provided a venue for coronations and parliamentary sessions. The Holy Trinity Statue is a masterpiece of the Hungarian Baroque, while the neo-Gothic Ursuline Church is one of the most impressive architectural monuments of the past century. Várkerület was built along the former moat, its inner row of houses following the line of the castle wall. A gem of Várkerület is the Maria Statue.

Das Rathaus wurde 1896, anlässlich des ungarischen Millenniums gebaut, das gegenüber stehende Stornó-Haus ist dank seiner interessanten Sammlung eines der berühmtesten Gebäude der Stadt. Sogar König Matthias hat einmal unter diesem Dach logiert. In der Geißkirche fanden im 17. Jahrhundert Krönungen und Landtage statt. Die Dreifaltigkeitssäule ist ein Meisterwerk der ungarischen Barockkunst und die Ursulinenkirche in neugotischem Stil ist eines der prächtigsten Baudenkmäler des vergangenen Jahrhunderts. Die Grabenrunde entstand den ehemaligen Burggraben entlang, ihre innere Häuserzeile folgt der Linie der Burgmauer. Ein Schmuckstück der Grabenrunde ist die Marienstatue.

The curative and refreshing air of the natural environment, the hiking routes of the wooded hillsides, the view towers, the mountain springs, and the proximity of Lake Fertő make Sopron one of the most beautiful and most pleasant holiday resorts of Hungary. The Löverek, the hilly area south of the city, is the most fascinating and most distinguished area of the city. It offers calm forests with spruces, oaks and chestnuts, lilies of the valley and cyclamens, hiking paths and lookout towers. Another attraction of the historic town of Sopron is the excellent wines of the region, so the city is becoming increasingly popular among those who would like to satisfy their thirst with noble wines.

Die wohltuende und frische Luft der natürlichen Umgebung, die Wanderwege der bewaldeten Hänge, die Aussichtstürme, die Quellen und die Nähe des Neusiedler Sees machen Sopron wirklich zu einem der schönsten und angenehmsten Erholungsorte Ungarns. Das Löwerviertel (Löverek), die Hügellandschaft südlich der Stadt, ist das schönste und vornehmste Erholungsviertel der Stadt. Ruhige Wälder mit Fichten, Eichen und Kastanien, Maiglöckchen und Alpenveilchen, Wanderwege und Aussichtspunkte - das alles können wir im Löwerviertel finden. Die ausgezeichneten Weine der Region verleihen der Stadt ebenfalls eine starke Anziehungskraft, daher erfreut sich die Stadt auch bei Weinkennern und -genießern immer größerer Beliebtheit.

Toxic sludge flood

Already have 10 people died and many hundreds wounded.

The village had today completely evacuated.

Bereits haben 10 Menschen starben und hunderte verletzt.
Viele Menschen in kritischem Zustand aus der Natronlauge.
Das Dorf hatte heute vollständig evakuiert.

Déjà 10 personnes sont mortes et plusieurs centaines blessés.
Beaucoup de gens dans un état critique de la lessive caustique.
Le village a aujourd'hui complètement évacué.

National Parc BÜKK 3.

Sunday was beautiful weather, blue sky, although the air was cool. Our friends started to walk at Cserépváralja, we also have the same place, but by car. We was not found the path to the ruins, and finally had to turn back from the neighboring village Tard. :)
At the pub had a chat with the local inhabitants. We heard that mostly old people living in the village of 500 inhabitants, there are hardly children. Since that day was the municipal election, also we visited mayor's office, where voters have gone steadily. We photographed in the center of the village. We visited the modern Catholic church, that built between 1959-1961, architectural rarity, it's only two such in Hungary , the other city is Hollóháza.



Our hiker friends arrived soon. We talked to each other that what we'll see, and we went to ruins of the castle. What we wanted to look at the cue-style chapel which was built in 1788 out of the stones of the old castle. The chapel is surrounded by fenced,can't visit. It is not far from there is a Turkish octagon-shaped fountain house, fenced it a youth hostel with the tourist road too , can't to attain. Unfortunately we see many of the same, because the password is: "to sell everything "



On the way we had looked at the famous hive-stones (Kaptárkövek)





On the top hill "Mango" is a large monumental stone beehive, a regular cone-shaped, 10-13 m high, and included is 25 niche.
We went again, beside the youth hostel, and then came a steep road and arrived at the ruins. We walked around the ruins, a little sunbathing, then we headed back to Cserépfalu.



At country house we took our packages , said goodbye to the host and two hours later we were in Budapest, so we had time to go vote.

National Parc BÜKK 2.

On Saturday we hiking by car,at about the route where walked our friends . We were a little bit lazy :) The first stop was Noszvaj. The village is located to the North-East 11 kms far from Eger, and it is the first settlement that can be reached by car in the Bükk Mountains. Noszvaj is situated in the valley to the South from the foot of the 669-metre-high Várhegy Mountain on both
sides of Stream Kánya. The population of the settlement is about 1.700 people. It is a typical mountain village surrounded by 300-500-metre-high mountains and hills from all sides. Its surroundings, charming lands, clean and healthy air, and monuments make it one of the most beautiful villages of Hungary. One of its famous sightseeings is the De la Motte Castle to which a wonderful 25-hectare-area park belongs.

Am Samstag wir haben mit dem Auto, gefahren, um ungefähre Route, wo unsere Freunde zu wandern. Wir waren ein wenig faul:) Die erste Station war Noszvaj.Das Dorf ist 11 km nordöstlich von der Stadt Eger im Bükk-Gebirge die erste Ortschaft. Sie befindet sich im Tal des Baches 'Kánya' am Fuss des Berges 'Vár' (669 m), hat cca. 1700 Einwohner. Es ist ein typisches Bergdorf, von allen Seiten von 300-500m hohen Hügeln und Bergen umgeben. Wegen seiner Umgebung, frischer Luft und seinen Monumenten ist eines der schönsten Dörfer in Ungarn. Eines des berühmtesten Monuments ist das Schloss De la Motte, zu dem ein grosser Park von 25 Joch gehört.













The castle is closed, but we were clever and managed to go inside.Unfortunately, there is debate on who is the owner, it is therefore closed. The castle is very nice and have a good condition.
Then we went to see cave-dwellings.

Das Schloss ist geschlossen,aber wir waren kluge und wir gelang eintreten. Leider ist es eine Streitfrage, ob wer ist die Eigentümer, es ist daher geschlossen. Das Schloss ist sehr schön und hat eine gute Zustand. Dann gingen wir weiter um Höhlenwohnungen zu sehen.



Cave-dwellings were cut into the soft rhyolite tuff at the beginning of 19th century. Nowadays these are inhabited with gypsies and homeless. We were not brave to go near. We said goodbye to Noszvaj, we hurried to the hut Várkut. The last 2 km was a very bad stony road. We had hoped meeting with our friends. Unfortunately, they started a couple of minutes ahead. We drank our coffee and we went after them.

Höhlenwohnungen wurden in den weichen Rhyolittuff zu Beginn des 19. Jahrhunderts geschnitten. Heutzutage werden diese mit Zigeunern und Obdachlosen bewohnt. Wir waren nicht mutig zu gehen in der Nähe. Wir verabschiedeten uns von Noszvaj, eilten wir zur Hütte Várkut. Die letzten 2 km war eine sehr schlechte steinigen Weg. Wir hatten Treffen mit unseren Freunden erhofft. Leider sie ein paar Minuten Vorsprung weggegangen. Wir tranken Kaffee und wir gingen hinter ihnen her.



To the look-out needed upwards to go about 1 km. There we were lucky because our friends resting yet still. We delight in the panorama briefly.

Bis Aufblickspunkt mußte man etwa 1 km zu gehen. Dort wurden wir Glück, weil unsere Freunde ruhen noch dort.. Wir freute uns um miteinander zu treffen. Kurz wir erfreuten das Panorama



The group walked further, we drove to the next meeting point in the village Bükkzsérc. On the road we had stop at Bogacs. Bogács is a small village with 2000 inhabitants, its thermal bath is open for public use year-round. The thermal spa is operating since the 1950s; Bogács is a popular holiday resort nowadays. The outskirts of the village are the old cellars next to each other.

Die Gruppe ging weiter, wir fuhren zum nächsten Treffpunkt im Dorf Bükkzsérc. Inzwischen hatten wir bei Bogacs hielt. Bogács ist ein kleines Dorf mit 2000 Einwohnern, ist die Therme offen für die öffentliche Nutzung das ganze Jahr über. Das Thermalbad ist seit den 1950er Jahren arbeitet; Bogács ist ein beliebter Ferienort heute. Der Rand des Dorfes sind in Reihe die alten Weinkellern.



At Bükkzsérc we walked a bit, then we came back with our friends to accommodation.

In Bükkzsérc spazierten wir ein bisschen, dann kamen wir zurück mit unseren Freunden zur Herberge.

National Parc BÜKK 1.

Here is the promised report.
Friday morning we met our friends at Cserépfalu. We went with 4 cars. Some of us arrived by bus. We were total of twenty.

Voici me rapport promis.
Vendredi matin, nous avons rencontré nos amis à Cserépfalu. Nous sommes allés avec 4 voitures. Certains d'entre nous sont arrivés par bus. Nous avons été au total de vingt.

Hier ist das versprochene Bericht.
Freitag morgen trafen wir unsere Freunde bei Cserépfalu. Wir fuhren mit 4 Autos. Einige von uns kamen mit dem Bus. Wir waren insgesamt zwanzig.



The 2 houses where we lived was close to one another. Our house was a very nice and comfortable country house.

Les 2 maisons où nous habitions était près de l'autre. Notre maison était une maison de campagne très agréable et confortable.

Die 2 Häuser, in denen wir lebten, war nahe beieinander. Unser Haus war ein sehr schönes und komfortables Landhaus.



We put off the packages and started to hike. The weather was cool and overcast but the rain didn't fall. First destination was the Hór Valley.

Nous avons mis au large des paquets et a commencé à faire de la randonnée. Le temps était frais et couvert mais la pluie ne tombe pas. Première destination était la vallée de Hor.

Wir haben ausgepackt die Gepäcke und fing an zu wandern. Das Wetter war kühl und bewölkt, aber die regen sich nicht fallen. Erstes Ziel war die Hor-Tal.



The valley is 23 km long and goes completely through the national park. At the creek was a lot of water and many small waterfalls, because it had a lot of rain. In valley is the Suba- hole Cave, which was once inhabited by the prehistoric man. We climbed up a slippery, wet rocks. (The step down was even worse). Who was brave enough, he went to the cave too. After the cave-visit we went on an unmarked trail. At the end of the road was a steep climbing. We arrived at 560 meters high, to the ruins of the Ódor Castle.

La vallée est longue de 23 km et passe complètement à travers le parc national. À la crique avait beaucoup d'eau et de nombreuses petites chutes d'eau, parce qu'il avait beaucoup de pluie. Dans la vallée de la Suba-trou Cave, qui était autrefois habitée par l'homme préhistorique. Nous sommes allér en haut une surface glissante, les rochers humides. (Aller en bas a été encore pire). Qui a eu le courage, il se rendit à la grotte aussi. Après la grotte à la visite, nous sommes allés sur une piste non marquées. À la fin de la route a été escarpé. Nous sommes arrivés à 560 mètres de haut, vers les ruines du château d'Ódor.

Das Tal ist 23 km lang und führt vollständig durch den Nationalpark. An der Bach war viel Wasser und viele kleine Wasserfälle, weil es viel regen hatte. Im Tal ist die Suba-Loch-
Höhle, die einst von der prähistorischen Menschen bewohnt war. Wir kletterten einen glatten und nassen Steinen. (Der Schritt nach unten war noch schlimmer). Wer mutig genug war, ging er in die Höhle zu. Nach dem Besuch im Höhle gingen wir auf einem unmarkierten Weg. Am Ende der Straße war ein steiler Aufstieg. Wir kamen bei 560 Meter hoch, auf den Ruinen der Burg Ódor.



Here are only stones now, but the view was beautiful. If the weather is nice, could be seen 40 km away until river Tisza. During the castle-hill was we had stop a rest , we were sitting here a bit, then we went back to Cserépfalu. In the evening we went for dinner at the neighboring village Bogács .”Old Mill” Restaurant was not very good . We had to wait a lot of serving, the soup was cold and the price was expensive.

Maintenant pierres seulement ici, mais la vue était belle. Si le temps est beau, pourrait être vu à 40 km jusqu'à la rivière Tisza. Pendant le château-Hill a été nous avons eu d'arrêt de repos, nous étions assis ici un peu, puis nous sommes retournés à Cserépfalu. Dans la soirée, nous sommes allés dîner au village voisin Bogacs. Restaurant „Vieux Moulin » n'était pas très bon. Il a fallu attendre beaucoup de servir, la soupe était froide et le prix était cher.

Hier sind nur Steine, aber die Aussicht war wunderschön. Wenn das Wetter schön ist, könnte 40 km bis fluß Tisza gesehen werden. Bei dem Schloss-Hügel hatten wir eine Pause stoppen, waren wir sitzen hier ein bisschen, dann gingen wir zurück zu Cserépfalu. Am Abend sind wir zum Abendessen in das benachbarte Dorf Bogács gegangen. Restaurant "Alte Mühle" war nicht sehr gut. Wir brauchen mehr warten für Service. Die Suppe war kalt und der Preis war teuer.
